Day trips East Midlands? Ideas for 2018

Being land locked near Rugby last year we got to the coast only 3 times while on holidays last year.
This year the family are keen to do a few days out as well at short notice, cruising/pub days in the sun.
So looking for ideas on The Trent, Great Ouse, Nene?
We have a 4m rib so need a slip, but don’t mind using marinas as they are normally quiet.
