Hello from herts

Hi all
I am an aa patrol from Hertfordshire
I have had previous boat experience but mostly jetski stand up and sit down.
I have a dilemma
I test drove a ballistic 7.8 rib last weekend and loved it
My concerns are
It is 15 yrs old and will I be walking into a big bill in a couple of years for new tubes
It has a 200 hpdi engine ...what are your experiences with this engine and is it reliable.
I will want to use it for long blasts as well as light coastal playing with the family.
Or...
Should I go for an express cruiser like a formula 27
Just looking for opinions
Thanks in advance
Steve

Welcome. A formula 27 and a rib are very different boats. It’s a good time of year for buying boats. Ballistics have a reputation of design for speed rather than ride comfort, and a styling which probably appeals to the leisure market rather than some of the more committed enthusiasts here.

Hopefully someone with experience of ballistic tubes will comment on their longevity. My instinct is the engine will be the higher risk - hpdi’s were known as High Probability of Destructive Incident - although if they survived this long you may have a good one!

Cheers poly
Polar opposites really aren't they
The ballistic was pretty fast and I thought it was fairly robust during the test water test
The appeal of the formula or the like is that we could go and stay over on board if we wanted to

You’ll get to know willk overtime. The more you know him the more his posts make sense (but you should be very concerned if you actually start to think like him!)

He has a bit of an apple/cider fixation... sometimes his posts make more sense viewed through such a haze, sometimes not!

Hey! There was no mention of Overtime when I signed up - which was:
1. Abuse of Cheap Foreign Labour and
2. Unfortunate on account of my 3.4 posts per day

...anyway AASteve, "my name is willk and I'm an appleoholic"
