Newbie based in the Midlands

Hi to you all. Great Forum.
Just taken the plunge and purchased a Plastimo MS 310 folding rib and hopeful to get at 10 hp outboard in the near future. I'm looking at the Mariner as I can get a one new for circa £1600 with a 5 year warranty which seems a descent deal and they seem to get good reviews but if you think differently please advise.
I'm Trying to get everything sorted for trips up and down the dart in Devon.
I will apologise upfront as I'm sure to be asking some silly questions in the near future

Nice boat! Welcome!!

I thought that only F-Rib made foldable rigid hulls because they have the patent? Anyway it looks very nice, I hope you enjoy it as much as I anticipate I'll enjoy mine.

I too am planning some trips up the Dart, but first I've got to get there. I find it relatively easy to judge distance by car (and even easier with Google) but I'm having difficulty judging how long it will take to Dartmouth by sea from Salcombe where I will be moored.

Please post plenty of pics.

What are you going to call her?

My daughter plans to name ours 'Sea Wench' or 'Black Pearl' (even though it's blue) lol

Welcome to the forum Wilko. I'd not seen that folding Plastimo before either... more here from about 20 sec on...

The Mariner 10hp is about the best combination of weight and price in that HP range.... good choice if buying new. If you were willing to buy used (or grey new) a Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke is 12kg lighter than the Mariner 4-stroke and would still push that efficient hull nicely.

Be very interested to hear how you get on with it... pics when you can would be good.

Seems kind of perverse that video fitting an electric outboard to a rib.

Hi Limecc
My daughter and wife will name her.Hope it doesn't take to long to decide but I will let everyone know when the decision has been made.
I can highly recommend the dart as its a lovely stretch of river and some lovely pubs on the banks notably the floating bridge by higher ferry in Dartmouth the FBI (ferry boat inn ) at Ditsum and the Maltsters arm at Tuckenhay all have good food and beer. Let me know when you are planning a trip and we will try and join you for a beer or two. We try to get a few days in Devon every couple of weeks in the summer.
Salcome also a great place to be moored I was there a couple of weeks ago myself.
I will post picture some pictures once I get chance.

An elec OB would never suit my use... but for those they do the Torqueedo models are most impressive..

A light small RIB would make the best of their power.

Its about 14 nautical miles. Should take you 45 minutes including the 8 Kt passage out of Salcombe.

You couldn't choose a nicer location than the Dart.

I am down there as often as possible, which isn't often enough.

Mariner is a decent engine. Yamaha, in my opinion, takes the biscuit...
