Good Or Bad Choice ????

Having been looking for quite a while for a second hand package at a reasonable price to no avail I am considering the following package brand new and would like your considered advice and will be mainly using for spuddling around the Dorset coast 2 up with the occasional 4 up trip in the River Dart and very occasionally pulling an inflatable with my daughter on board.

Yamaha 15hp 4 stroke motor weighing in at 52kg (£1800)
Honwave T32 Airdeck. (£800)

This will all be transported around in my VW T5 and I am a reasonably strong chap for 52.

Any advice welcome.

Where have you been looking? There are outfits like that listed every few days or so on eBay like this:

Honda Marine Honwave Inflatable Boat. | eBay

or check the one listed this morning on here, superb price:

http://www.rib.net/forum/f21/honwave...tml#post685627

Four up with a 15 you would ideally want a 3.4/5m minimum.

I have just messaged Dominic as I do not have sufficient privilege to post in the classifieds at present.
If he contacts me today I will do the 7 hour round trip tomorrow to purchase if in good order which it certainly looks to be.
Thanks for the pointers.

Scar that outfit couldn't be a better start to SIB life. If you find either boat or engine not ideal then you'll gain the experience to know exactly what you want and be able to sell/re-buy without much/any loss.

I hope you manage to get it.

Missed the boat once again I am afraid !
I have found a T38 nearby and am on the lookout for a motor to match it.

Not surprised that went so quick, it was a stonking deal.

Another outfit on eBay ending tomorrow below - again, absolutely perfect combination, needs a bit of tidying but could be good value...

It could be good value if it didn't go up another tenner. All tube valves leaking, air floor leaking, broken choke & tiller handle on "old generation" outboard!!!

Shame for scar that Honwave combo had gone... that was the buy of the year.

Nah...bit of spit and polish and you've got yourself a lovely outfit.

Anyway Scar, golden rule is never part with cash or ideally even bid on anything you have not inspected/seen running/verified etc. Buyer beware as always.

I quite like this one below:

A little small but nonetheless a very attractive 'first SIB' outfit all the same. Looks very clean and tidy indeed. Perfect to chuck in the back of a T5.

Not a million miles from Yeovil.

2011 Tohatsu T310i Airdeck semi Inflatable rib boat 8hp Yamaha Outboard | eBay

If you see something you like always act fast - message them right away (be ultra polite, positive and professional) and try and arrange to view ASAP stating you will pay cash (make a sensible offer) and take it away there and then. When someone sells a boat that is what they want - to get shot of it as quick as possible to a nice reliable buyer.

Amen to that! The world is full of time wasting, tyre kicking, mouthpieces. A decent buyer is a great thing.

Well, I am the proud owner of the Honwave / Honda outfit and looking forward to putting her through her paces next weekend after purchasing a couple of essentials such as bouyancy aids and flare pack as everything else I require came with the package.
The deal was a smooth transition apart from having to drive for the best part of 8 hours in total !
Thank you all for the kind advice.

"Well, I am the proud owner of the Honwave / Honda outfit"

Well Done Mate .... Had I been 20 years younger and 50% stronger then you would still be searching for a rig. I am glad it has worked out for you (and Dominic .. He seemed a good guy)
I will probably end up with a 330 F-Rib and a much lighter motor.
Stay safe and have a great time with your new toy.

Many thanks VFR800i.
I intend to trailer the outfit most of the time so just putting the motor on and off will not be too much of a chore.
I wish you luck with your search and happy sibbing.

Scar - congratulations!

I have a 20hp but it is the same 52kg (115lb) weight. I'm able to lift that amount on my own but the shape of the engine makes if difficult so I'm always needing another person so I don't drop and damage it. If you figure out how to do it yourself (beyond brute strength and manhandling) please let me know. I'd love to figure a way to get out on the bay with my youngest without a trailer if possible.

So far I have only managed to get it out of the van and onto a stand with wheels single handed however, I am confident that if I managed that the transom of my craft should be the same.
Time will tell.

Just be a bit careful, juggling engines isn't even similar to lifting the same weight in a more user friendly format.

Just purchased a trailer so tomorrow will see me put the boat together and offer up to the trailer for sizing and sorting in time for her maiden voyage with me on Sunday.
