Trailer wheel clamp for 10" wheels

I have a snipe trailer with 10" wheels for my 4.2m Zodiac rib. Has anyone a good recommendation as far as a wheel clamp goes? Insurance requires one! Thanks.

I have a new clamp which you can have. I'll PM you with the details.

Wheel Clamps

Red Fox,

Try your local caravan center, I bought 2 adjustable 2 point clamps for my trailer.

I paid about £50 quid each and are insurance approved.

Will look at trailer to get manufacturer later.

I'd recommend a Bulldog, I have a Bulldog trailclamp for my small trailer, have a look here to see what size you want.

(They do beafier wheelclamps too.)

Also, you may want to get a hitchlock. Again, I got a Bulldog, seems pretty good. Some of the cheaper hitchlocks sold in places like Halfords seem pretty insecure to me.

cheers,
Simon

In one of this or last months hard power boat mags there was a feature on locks with hampshire police testing them, it had a pictuer of a blue walkaround on the front cover.

I test wheel clamps for Auto Express (and others) and find Bulldog generally very good, get one that covers the middle of the wheel to stop people swaping it for a wheel not fitted with a clamp.

MBM Tested 14 of the most popular wheel clamps on the market with the following criteria:
Ease of Use
Security
Value for Money
Overall observations

MBM Recommended the following 3 as BEST BUY:
Seacure Clamp Lock - £40.00
OML Bolt Lock - £45.00
Breckland Lockfast - £60.00
The Seacure Bolt Lock - £119 was aslo higly recommended although a little pricier.

ps - The Bulldog was one of the most expensive, it only scored 2 out of 5 for security and value for money. The article appeared in the September 2003 of MBM and I felt it to be a very comprehensive test and worthwhile reading.

Hope this helps.

The OML and Seacure bolt locks are not wheel clamps, so not much use in the instance.

The Breckland Lockfast is a pain in the neck to use because you have to get the fixing bolts on the wheel near horizontal before you can fit it (not so easy under a RIB) and at £60 it is expensive compared to the Bulldog euro clamp. Additionally it offers very low visual deterrents when compared to a big yellow clamp.

Most Bulldog products are also TNO, Thacham and PACT approved which can mean that you should get something of your insurance. I can not find out what test Breckland have passed with their device.

I have been testing mechanical security devices for over 12 years and was heavily involved in developing standards to test the products against.
