Well… I’ve owned and driven lots of them, except the “luxury spec ones”… Shogun, Landcruiser (although mine only had 7 seats from memory..must have misplaced one somewhere.. ) Patrol, L200, Blazer, Navara, Freelander, Disco, RR, LRs…of all shapes’n sizes…. Suzuki SJ… yes I know what I looked like in that …Explorer, RAV… it is me Moms..OK? … plus a good few more that I'm trying to erase from my memory.. ... and still own a Defender, L200, Explorer and the little Suzuki….
They have ALL had issues one way or another… and for those of you too blinkered to accept that your vehicle may not be perfect then more fool you… but… the vehicle I choose first… is my trusty … Defender. Why ? ‘cause I love it to bits… warts and all…… if you want something completely reliable… buy a Skoda… and live with the lack of character too………..

Codders , that's not very genereous of you/.....The best way is to completley ignore him... The guy obviousely doesn't like Land Rovers in any form, shape, or size. Honestly,do you really give a tinkers cuss? ( is that the expression.. loosing my english )-- or is it "pride"

How's the boat getting on?? - max speed ??.

Jonathan

Have had an Isuzu Bighorn (Trooper) LWB 7 seater (3.1td) for several years, done 100K miles and er, nothing's ever gone wrong with it, ever. But, the newer 3.0 Troopers have been a nightmare with a serious engine design fault resulting out of Isuzu partner GM's involvement with Caterpillar who designed the motor injection system resulting in exploding runaway diesels, as fuel leaks down past the injector seals into the sump. At first Isuzu were in denial (like Landrover), but are now fixing these very expensive motors FOC as long as it can be proved they're not grey imports (if it is - you're pretty much screwed).

We achieved this by forming an owners club and lobbying Isuzu Motors and involving TV and consumer affairs programs. The upshot is that they've decided to stop making a very fine 4X4 as a result and are simply sticking to the pickup with a redesigned motor. Shame it was a good car. (Trooper)

But, the MKI 2.8TD Isuzu motor is very highly prized by LR owners looking for more grunt and a diesel.

As the very jingoistic CP says (calm down boyo or you'll implode), there are problems with just about every other mechanical make, and having worked for the Ford MoCo can testify to the lack of care exercised by the average hourly paid worker in car production. It's only robots that have improved reliability, so It's all down to luck really.

It's how the respective manufacturers deal with these (inevitable)faults and back up their products should sway the decision making process IMHO.

If you want to know which always is the best 4X4 or RIB? It's the ones that you own, of course....

So the question is how many Freelanders have been sold and out of that what percentage have had the head gasket go? I bet Landrover know, and I bet its a statistic that they will do anything to hide!
