Unfortunately my A3 story can top the lot of you! My A3 has had so many problems it has been sent back to Audi and they are providing a new car.

It was the 2ltr TDI 146bhp hatchback and had a new exhaust gas recirculation valve, air mass meter, cylinder head, TWO new tandem pumps and a radiator fan in 12 months!

The car broke down twice whilst being tested by the mechanic (I tried not to laugh when I heard that ) then when it was given back to me after being "100% sure its fixed" it developed a fuel problem!

I'm currently waiting delivery on an A4 with the 180bhp 2 litre TDI engine to see if that is any different.

I suspect the problems stem from desire to make the traditionally more expensive A3 compete with the cheaper 307, golfs and the like. Unfortuately this is at the expense of build quality.

I've since had an A6 and an A4 and no problems... so far!!

One of the redeeming parts of this whole sorry saga is the level of customer service offered by my local dealership has been brilliant.

Don't be tempted to get the A3, get the Golf with the same engine!

Chris

They have a wooden frame - well some of them do - the new Aero and Aero coupe are modern and stunning!!!

Then again the best WWII aircraft was all wood - the Mossie. Also many F1 powerboats are still plywood.

And not to mention the Morris Traveller. The wood on these is structural. And never had a problem with the gear box on this either. Mind you double-de-clutch into 1st is not as quick as the DSG system…
