Newbie Looking for first RIB

I am a marine photographer in search of a RIB for my business.

Am hoping to find something in the 16-20 ft. range on the US East coast.

Would love to find a Mercury (Vailant) DR490 with jockey seat in orange.

Anybody know of one?

Otherwise a late 1990s 18 foot Avon in good condition, with or without engine.

Or a Zodiac 550 with jockey seat.

Anybody have any other suggestions?

Need a good size boat that can also hold up to 8 people in a pinch for recreation, which is why the larger boat is attractive, and for rough seas.

if you have a boat like it, new, or used in good condition, please let me know.

Welcome to RIBnet!

I've moved your post here as I think it will probably get more useful attention in this section.

Good luck with the search

Might check out Ribcraft; they're not too far away from you, I think.

Well, OK; they're in Mass. Still closer than Europe.

I'd suspect that there are boating mags on the East Coast similar to the Left Coast's "Latitude 38", which often has larger RIB's and inflatables listed for sale as tenders to larger blowboats.

Might be more productive to see what's being offered and research them, rather than try to hunt down a specific brand, as RIB's aren't all that popular in the US (yet.)

Luck;

If you are thinking of carrying 8 persons for recreation and in the rough sea then you should be looking at a 750 size as 8 persons in a 550 is going to be very very cramped

best of luck in your search and let us know what you ended up with

Agreed. 8 people, you're looking at a well laid out 20 footer or so, more is better. More is probably a requirement if you're venturing into any kind of swell or weather.

I have the very boat for you. Just placed ad on this site, Redbay Stormforce. Lovely boat looking for a photographer, only problem is it's in Scotland!

Thanks everyone. I found a Zodiac in good condition. Little smaller than I wanted, but turns out to be good for now. Upgrade may come when money allows.
