mega battery for icom ic- m1 euro

turned on my icom ic-m1eurov after not having turned it on for the past 2 years or more and the battery is still full and it works a treat, I can not believe the battery has stayed charged all this time.

why do some other bits of kit eat rechargable batteries so quickly
