where to put my fuel primer bulb

I know this came up not long ago, but I couldn't find the thread! Possibly a stupid question:

Do I want to put my fuel primer bulb before or after my water seperating fuel filter? ie between the engine and filter or between the filter and fuel tank?

As close to the engine as you practically can. Do not put at tank end of fuel line.

Use to have a lot of starting problems until I moved the primer nearer the tanks and it cured them. Having said this I run the fuel from three tanks connected with a switched manifold and this was prone to air locks.

Mine is on the piano in the playroom.

I'd put it before the Fuel Filter Tim. That way it won't move around as you turn the outboard from lock to lock. It'll also be somewhere protected.

Right, thanks for the replies. By by the sounds of it I could get away with wacking it anywhere really (even on the piano in the playroom...alice do you find your motor runs smoothly with the bulb in this position?!).

Is the purpose of the fuel primer bulb to pump the fuel up from the tank and then pressure upto the engine through the filter.

Which if it was to be after the fuel filter and the filter be empty of fuel it would have to pump the air out and then drag up the fuel requiring more effort and time.

So i think before the fuel filter is best.

Well I 'm just about to fit a navman fuel flow meter to my boat & it says to be the suction side & after the filter!
So if I read this right for me it should go filter, meter, bulb & then engine?
Any thoughts?
