What size engine

Hi
going to the boat show to see what deals i can get on new engine,my little 4 metre Narwhal as had a couple of engine but never done much more than 25 MPH.always had weekish old 40hp engines
What size engine do you recomend reading some other peoples problems more power more instabilty thinking of going for 50 4 stroke (best Deal) or would a modern 40 hp be a better buy,my Narwhal has trim tabs fitted this cured a problem I had slow pick up and bow in the air.
Advice please
Stuart

Consider a 40 or 50 Etec they are lightweight and require no maintenance for the first 3 years or 300 hours.

Why go for a new one if yours is only about a week old?

Do you really want to be investing all the expense of a new motor on a 4m Narwhal? If you're looking for more than 25mph, then a longer hull may be the way forward?

Have a look for a good condition Yamaha 40 HP two stroke. Fantastic engines. A year or two old would be a good one.

You can sometimes find a good engine on ebay however beware of people that will take your money and run, if you look around RibNet you will find posts about a couple of people partcularly that need to be avoided.

If you find something your interested in post it here before you go for it in case someone here has had bad experiences in the past with the seller.

I have been looking at 50 hp engines to put on a sib , the etec's are heavier than most of the 4 strokes in that size .
Lightest 4 stroke is the honda 50
the lightest by far is 2 stroke tohatsu , I guess thats why the Zap cats use them . Gotta be quick to get a new 2 stroke now .

What are you getting - a zapcat, or similar?

Thats the plan for now anyway if my rib sells . I fancy the surfcat or maybe a MK3 futura , which may be better as its a bit bigger and the transom isn't open .
Cheap speed and the ability to travel with it .
The Tohasu 50 is about the only choice of new motors and they are only a few that are left in dealers .
