Rig suzuki 4 stroke for self righting boat.

Im looking to modify a pair of suzukis to be able to roleover and not fill with water etc. Any ideas if their is a kit out their to do this? I know RNLI has done this to their Yamahas. Looking for some guidance.

Suzuki UK are currently doing/have done this to a pair of DF90s for a Redbay demo rib of theirs. They weren't finding it as straightforward as they had hoped and were delayed for the Southampton Boat Show. I'd guess that there is no kit available yet.

The Redbay boat on display at Southampton was fitted with 2 x DF90 Suzuki's as Willk said. The inversion proofing is being developed by Kevin Mole on the IOW. He has set up a new company for this. Inversion Technologies Ltd, Tel No: 07836 524597. Hope this helps.

Here are some pics of how the Yam 75 2 strokes are done on the Atlantics.
Not sure how the Yam 115's are done, I was told the oil draining back into the cylinders wasn't an issue though as hardly any made it in whislt inverted, not sure of the time periods etc?

Keep it comming some great stuff. Any body know where rnli gets the rope reels on their atlantic ribs. I am guesing i will have to custom fab.

They make it themselves, we have bought a few from them including for our lifeboat Stefnir.

I doubt it would be a problem over such a short time. From time to time I deal with upside down vehicles and while oil getting past the rings into the cylinders is a problem if the vehicle is inverted for a while (say overnight) the ones you collect the same day are usually OK even after a couple of hours, and I'd guess with a self righting outfit you are probably back upright again in a short time - don't know but I doubt it's more than 10 minutes or so?

The big problem is water in the cyls. My prehistoric lump has a mercury switch (and I do mean the type of switch, not the OEM's name!) which is designed to cut it if you try & trim up too far. Net result of this is that if it rolls, the engine will die by the time it gets horizontal, so in theory should have stopped turning by the time it goes totally over.

I believe there was a submersion kit that basically put a dump valve on each cylinder & a flood valve on the carbs. Idea being once upright again you opened the valves & cranked for a few seconds to pump the water out / flooded fresh fuel in , then shut the valves & cranked. From memory it was built / sold by Barrus?
