Painting cast iron

I am planning my winter refurb. I have a Honda 50HP on the RIB.

The steering horn that forms the main steering fulcrum is made of cast metal (iron I think).

I've looked at a few of these and it appears to be a common fault for them to rust badly, mine has!

I made a half hearted attempt at a tidy up by wire brushing then treating with Ku-rust. Access is very poor so this has been fairly unsuccessful. I need to do a better fix.

To that end I have obtained a spare part to prep before fitting. This also needs restoring as the rust has already started.

Has anyone any suggestions on how to paint the cast part to get a finish that will last?

I am less worried about the look because the part is very well hidden.

All ideas welcome

Thanks in advance

Ian

Get it sand blasted and powdercoated much more durable
if you cant get the colour get it close as you can and spray the topcoat as a final coat only
