8hp on Valiant 270?

Hi, has anyone got any experiance of 8hp outboard on a valiant 270, it says on the plate that this is the max engine, however I feel this may be a bit to large for the 270.
Many thanks, Dave.

Dave, welcome to ribnet!

Not sure what your previous experience is, but for what it's worth I've used an 8 on an "OMC Express 2.7", which is going to be much the same.

It will fly, and if you are sat at the stern and open up the bow will go skywards, but when you get flat water & sort out the balance it's a good way to get between A & B!

That's a "RIB" type tender, isn't it?

My 2.7 SIB is rated to 10HP and is raging fun, making over 17Kts with a 9.8HP

So 8HP seems quite modest to me - I'd be looking to put a light 2 stroke motor on there if you want the best performance while going easy on the transom, the 8hp Yammie is 27kg...

Experience is zero! Always fancied a small boat, it currently has a Mariner 4hp 2 stroke, but i like the idea of something slightly bigger, thanks for your comments, Dave.

Which reminds me - you'll need a tiller extension to get yourself forward a bit. I'd recommend a telescopic unit of about 600mm (extended).

I have the Yam 8hp on a 3.1m, and it works really well. Wear a kill cord before applying full throttle!

Note the Yam is a 200cc twin; I suspect its got more torque than a single cylinder.
