CH you are a wonder

CH

I asked the Hilton for a quote several times but they never came back to me......

Having said that, most of the hotels here don't like one day bookings as they're after the weekly bucket & spade lot.

I also tried the Ascot & Empress which are large hotels and neither seemed over bothered.

The Hilton is a pretty good base as it has the facilities for kids, also restaurants, night club and casino - but you'll need photo ID such as passport to get into casino.

I can only apologise for the lack of response from the rest of the IoM tourist industry.

As previously noted on this thread, Douglas Bay Yacht Club have the regatta on 28/29 June and there should be activity at the Yacht Club on Saturday.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Jon

We may come Friday?

Hi wittingham, they didnt come back to me either,I had to hassle them, which I am good at.

It will be good after a long trip to relax somewhere we can sit and and talk and any children can go for a swim.

I have just spocken to Dave and he wants a booking and is speaking o Kieth Hart to see if he also wants a booking. Will post as I am informed.

We are considering going Friday as doing 60 miles on saturday then returning sunday maybe a bit to much in two days ?What do you all feel about this?

Sue is Taking the car over on Friday afternoon from Heysham as want to play in my new 8ft sib on the island any gear we can take let me now.

If I am taking my sib the I also have a idea for all the families and its a bit of fun.It goes like this .Dave drops the sib off with me in it offshore somewhere and you have to find it given a rough lat and long, maybe in the evening saturday or sometime during the weekend, its just an idea but maybe a bit of fun for all?

IoM trip

If some of you make it over on Friday 27 June, I will see about organising a small soiree (or is it Swaray (see earlier post)) at Whiting Towers.

I'll ask Mrs W about rustling up a few curries/chilis etc. and raid the local off licence.

It's the least I can do after the hassle over getting accom sorted.

Can someone organise a list of boats etc. and fuelling requirements.....I'll get in touch with the guy with the diesel bowser and see what can be arranged with jerrycans for petrol.

Cheers

Jon

Saturday Sorted

Thanks Witingham, just spocken to Dave and as its arranged for Saturday then we might as well stick to the plan.

We can take you up on the idea next time, which will not be far away.

We are all booked in to the Hilton if anybody else is joining us
Saturday night.

Daves boat is one thats coming and we will need fuel. If its possible can we get an early start as we want to be there for around lunch time.

Wittingham we have filled up at the Shell/bp terminal next to the floating pontoon in Douglas,is that open Saturday around 2pm?

If not then the garage at the bottom of the harbour should be open in Douglas.?

Hi Jon Has there been any mention of if the weather (or the fx) is 'orrible, i.e strong winds and the run has to be cancelled what the situation with the hotel is. Its a nasty bit of sea given the wrong weather. -& me and thee would have to paddle the boat to somewhere were nobody knows us before we could call for help!

When I last spoke to the Shell manager he said they're only open 9-5 Monday to Friday!

Ian Sims who runs the Electrical & Dive shop on the quay has a diesel bowser and I'm trying to get an idea of litres required/timing etc.

Petrol is a little more tricky......it has to be jerry cans I'm afraid - again if I know how much might be needed I can see about rustling some up (Son is in Army Cadets so that seems a likely source).

The 'Garage at the bottom of the Harbour' is now a house sales office - nearest petrol is a good 2km from where you're tieing up!

Mrs W has confirmed that any ribber or crew arriving on Friday evening can be assured of a hot meal & a drink or two at our place which is 5 minutes from the harbour.

Dave (Wavelength) - I'm yottie'ing that w/e so it'll probably be my horrible 15 year old that will need any rescuing!

Bill Giles weather for late June

22nd to 30th
A pretty unsettled start to the fourth week in June seems likely with cloud and rain across many parts of the country. In the rain it could become very windy, with near gale force wind gusts, especially over Northern Ireland, western and northern Scotland and the Northern Isles.

By the middle of the week the weather should start to settle down once again, as all parts of the country becoming drier and brighter, with increasing amounts of sunshine.

Looks settled for the trip then?
