It's a Bakdraft Tim
But it has wings

And 'carlybaby' will be racing it at Cowes hopefully at the end of the month so you can cheer him and his excellent navigator (Matt) on...

And don't forget Cookee in Bananashark ..OH and Adam Younger and everyone else

Thanks Tim....yes it is an EOS 300D.
Most of the underway pics were taken with a Sony DSC U60 waterproof jobbie. I don't get the Canon out unless I am standing still and can keep it dry using a combination of clothing/body angle etc.

A Bakdraft ah, well it looks fast so thats got to be good. I would love to get into powerboat racing. If anyone wants a crew then I'm up for it ! I like the look of zapcats, looks like great fun! I should be out for the Cowes classic as well taking a few pics. Previous years I have sat off yarmouth and let all the powerboats shoot past me as I take pics. Most people wave as they storm past at 70mph which is nice!

Robin, At present I use a combination of plastic bags, towels, coats and all risks insurance to make sure my camera is ok. One of my aims to become a semi pro photographer, concentrating on yachting and powerboat photography. I don't suppose anyone will be around cowes this firday afternoon? would love to get out in a rib to take some pics !!

Tim...forgot to say..why don't you post something in the Racing Forum so that the regular racers would notice you want to have a go?

I may well do that thanks! I always thought that it would be a bit pointless asking as no one would want to waste the fuel taking someone out who would probably just get in the way! Perhaps this is the wrong angle at which to look at it from?!

Thanks again.

OK ...before JK gets back and moves this discussion to the Race thread...
here's a personal observation:
Navigators get injured at times and peeps willing to train who have the right ability & temperament may just be very welcome indeed.
Or you could offer to pay your way on, say, a trial run as lots of them seem to fair guzzle the fuel Why don't you send a few pms? (Nothing ventured...)
Another job that comes up frequently for non-racers is safety-boat stuff. A few Forumites do that as well and get to know the race teams also.
We hope to go across to see Cowes Classic and you are very welcome to park yourself on Zebedee (top speed 35k so no race boat!!!!!!)
Who knows ; a race team may spot your interest and pm you

(Don't give up. The Missus has even wangled a few spins on Race Boats )

Send a pm if you want a personal obs. on people we(as outsiders) have found approachable and friendly.

Missus
