1st Car for my Son

I'm looking for a car for my son to learn to drive in.

Anything considered but ideal would be a small engined low mileage nice VW Polo.

If anyone has anything suitable, please get I touch.

Many thanks

Mk 8/9 Petrol Polos are nice, thats the 6R and 6C shape (2009-2015). I drive a diesel Polo as my daily driver and can recommend. Fiat 500 1.2 also a good choice. Only thing to watch out for is rusty sumps. Insurance, you can consider Marmalade which offer temporary insurance packages, 3 months, 6 months, etc.

We've been through this a few years ago, and ended up with a late Corsa 1200, which is a really nice solid car compared other options that felt like they'd fold flat in an accident.
It was also cheaper to insure than the much older SEAT Ibiza my eldest lad had.
The smaller engined ones are even cheaper to insure.

When considering insurance, don't be fooled by the cheap quote for insurance as a learner. The premium rises massively when they pass their test and can go out on their own.

Nasher.

We did the corsa route about 10yrs ago. It was the little 3 cyl petrol with about 1000cc engine. It was pretty cheap to buy and kept it about 4 yrs. at the same time as my two children learnt to drive on it I used it as my runaround. We had a few minor issues with it but it was easy to fix and service. The beauty of these corsa’s was it was dead easy to sell on to another family for a youngster to use.

Good luck with the insurance!!

Dave

When I was looking for a car for my daughter (surprise birthday present) for her 18th I looked at a Corsa 1.2 petrol model. Think it was 2011. Anyway one thing to be aware of - is some of the base models don't have seat height adjustment. That's pretty important!

I've got a 1.2 Polo S that I bought for my son to learn in. He's now joining the Army so it's not needed.
57 Plate and about 98000 miles.
Looking to sell in the next couple of weeks.
Let me know if this might be of interest.
I'm down the road in Warsash.
