But if you are using a radar gun you will surely get SOG unless you are moving at the same speed as the tidal flow?

Tidal flow in the river approx 5 kts. Minimum speed for steerage 3 kts. Harbour/river speed limit 5 kts. My SOG is 8 kts by radar gun, my/your GPS... I' m now...
