Stern panel thickness of a Foldable RIB

Hi there,

Does anyone have an idea about the stern panel thickness of a Foldable RIB?

I need to drill some holes there in order to attach a Railblaza starport unit and I would like to know the length of the screws I'll have to buy before doing the holes on the stern panel.

Thanks for your time

Since you don’t say which boat you have I would just measure the thickness of the transom and buy screws 5 mm shorter

I do, sir. It's a Foldable RIB: https://www.foldablerib.com/

The model it's the 360 but I am pretty sure the stern panel of all models have the same thickness. Unfortunately the thickness of the stern panel is not possible to be made with a pachymeter due to a ledge it has on top that's why I've launched this thread

You can add known thickness packers to get past the ledge then just subtract that from you measurement giving you the transom thickness

Don't know what a pachymeter is but with a vernier caliper just get a bit of wood that's thicker than the ledge.
Hold the wood against the transom on the ledge side of the transom with the wood sticking out beyond the ledge.
Measure the total thickness of transom and wood combined with the vernier caliper & note it.
Remove & measure the thickness of the wood & note it.
Subtract the thickness of the wood from the total thickness & that's the thickness of the transom.

If you haven't got a vernier caliper then an ordinary pair of calipers used with a ruler will work.
At a push careful use of a ruler would do.

ETA. Having just looked up 'pachymeter' I now know what one is. Every day's a school day

As Jeff mentioned..measure the thickness of the transom at the top..which will include the overhang lip ..measure the overhang ..and subtract. Simple maths is all. You only need a ruler ..no patchy thing or calipers required

However to save you doing that I can tell you the thickness of the transom is 2cm. When I got mine, I drilled a 6mm hole through it so it is easy for me to measure.

I can fit any attachment I want to the transom by putting a 6mm coach bolt through the hole and securing with a wing nut. Much cheaper than expensive Railblaza ports and its only one hole..not several. I mount a fishing rod holder on a piece of ply and the single bolt and wingnut holds it secure..or I can swap to a Gopro mount on a piece of ply..and so on. Each to their own ways though.

Merry Xmas when it comes
