I thought I saw her heading south on the M6 close to Stafford last Thursday. I remember thinking at the time you don’t often see an Avon sea rider 4m with radar.

Didn’t make out the car but it could have been a Renault Avantime

When I spoke with Harry back in February, he told me the story about this last leg, and you could kind of tell that it scared him. If Cape wroth can do that to you in a benign state then I would hate to see the state when it blows up.

The guys could have spent a little bit of time in the Summer Isles, that’s basically boating nirvanna.

Is it just me, but the Searider with deluxe seat set up doesn’t give them enough viewing visibility in rough sea, especially handling throttle control. My **** would have turned to jelly after numerous slap downs coming off waves. You can stand up and use your knees as shock absorbers in that kind of weather with jockey seats. Just an observation, and not an option for them given boat layout.

Great episode though.

Over my lifetime I've been at the tiller/wheel of many different shapes and sizes of boats... I stand 99% of the time even when there is a comfy seat to hand. Even in a SIB I hate being low down.

Good episode. Issues like that crack are inevitable on a boat of that age.. I assume a 90s model or thereabouts?

Great episode as per usual. The valves on the tube look old to me , maybe the 80's?

The hole in the Hull was a fair bit of damage, maybe trailer damage but more likely from the cave adventure would be my uneducated guess.

Am I missing something....why didn't he just go a bit slower. I've been caught out going round a headland before in my SIB, I just sowed to displacement speed. Yes, it took ages, but the boat isn't leaving the water and slapping down!

With deep troughs like that, and bear in mind a rough sea can look flat on film, but these were big seas, then you need to power through them, rather than risking being thrown around like flotsam. Some of these rolling waves could fall over and break that’s when it gets dangerous. Traversing them can be just as bad.

Jeez- that was a watch! I don’t know about them, but there was a bite mark in the sofa where I was sat after a couple of those waves. Fair play for fixing the hole with a scotch whisky cork - was wondering what happened to the contents of the bottle!!!?

I think I read somewhere that it’s a 1977 hull.

It was recently fully restored by a professional company, see part 15. This company really did nice and relevant work with the right skills, tools and materials. But even then, you never grind out through the whole grp, some old weak spots or older repairs from the past in the original laminate just stay where they are untouched.
The 50hp doesn't do it good. It sails nicer, but I've owned multiple SR4's in the past and the honest experience is that normally a nice 25-30hp with the prop carefully chosen just is enough. Now Harry is carrying a lot of stuff (so weight) and needs some compensation for that. But that same power will "hammer" the boat repeatingly when driving in some rougher seas.

I wish he gets this properly repaired and then be enabled to proceed his journey. This is really one of the nicest series to watch ever! Really enjoy it!!!

I’ve just been catching up with this and it brought back memories of Cape Wrath on the 1999 Round Britain jaunt. We had a wave break onto the boat, filling it to the top of the tubes in an instant, and two of the crew’s lifejackets automatically inflated.

The GoPro flattens everything out, but they spent a lot of time looking up at the sky! It’s a very committing bit of water and fair play to them for doing it properly and not taking the canal.

I take it the guy from Ribworkz who did the tube repairs is ex-Ribcraft? He was wearing a Ribcraft hoodie and has a Somerset accent. Tidy job!

Yep, one of the best episodes to date - a great mini adventure, some fantastic guys at Cockwells from the very top down and top work on the SR all round.
