Insurance..

Afternoon All,
Our insurance renewal has just come up for the year.
It has increased substantially.. (like most things have this year!)
I was looking for any recommendations on who you use/ have found to be the most competitive?
Thanks
James

Craftinsure.com have always been competitive for us & handled a few claims in the family & a couple of friends & been fair & professional in their settlement.
Cheapest isnt always best

Couple of search engines usually give a good comparason;

or

GJW came out better for me but try Porthcawl insurance brokers.

Just be wary of a company with 4 in the name…..

I've gone for craftinsure this year at around two thirds of the price of Towergate's renewal premium (up 50% from last year).

Don't look for the cheapest premium. You'll get what you pay for. Do your research with regards to claims payments. Will the claim rep nickle and dime you and underestimate cost to repair or replace. Go to your local boat shops that do repairs. Ask the shop mgr who they like to deal with and who drives them crazy.

Spookily, mine has now appeared too - GJW for the last 2 years but Ripe seems to be coming in at better value this year.

Never used them before but seems to be Aviva underwritten according to the web site.

Is this based on knowledge of them or just a generic thought - Ripe use the Insure4boats portal?

Based on them denying a claim a couple of years ago and not being accepted for an inland lake due to the failure to payout following a collision and the below market liability cover message me for more info……

Hi

That answers that - thank you

Might be a bit cheaper (no a lot) and have a couple of extras, but no point if history shows it's not worth the paper its printed on.

GJW it'll be again.

Looking at the small print Craftinsure and Towergate were both quoting for the same insurance with Zurich yet were £203/311 respectively.

We've been with craftinsure for about 15 years, unfortunately had to make a couple of claims in that time both £10k+ in value one maybe closer to £20k my daughter had a claim for her sailing dinghy £1500 & my pal had a partial sinking of his yacht & claimed close to £30k all 4 claims were handled well & fairly, you could always speak to someone in the uk who knew their stuff. My cruiser lives on a swing mooring which they dont include in standard terms but a quick phone call & cover arranged subject to a small extra premium & increased excess. Just because they are cheap doesnt equal poor service
