Hurricane Matthew

We are finalizing preparations for Hurricane Matthew. This is the first major hurricane to hit Nassau since 1929. Our house is boarded up and ready but we have to leave being in the storm surge area. Empress is on the hard and Huntress will be secured in a canal, still in a storm surge area unfortunately.

Calling for a category 3 with 10-15' surge.

We're about as prepped as we can be.

Let's hope for the best - see y'all on the other side.

Huntress is in the canal now, but we will move her to the middle to ride it out. All insurance up to date too...

Good luck. I'm watching this closely myself- I have family in the way of it as it goes up the Florida coast.

I might be too over careful, but if you put your boats like that on the side and one of them moves over to the other side, you'll have a lot of damage. Wouldn't you be better of placing them upright?

Might be too late by now.

Well I'm sitting in Orlando awaiting Matthew. Curfew been on since last night. Centre seems to be 25 miles of coast. St moment higher winds and constant rain. Officials saying warning with continue till Sst morning I think to enable them to assess the damage. Beers are in so comfy seat and wait it out.

Your concern is rather singular !! I'm here with five members of my family and thankfully we're all safe and sound unlike many people who have suffered at the hands of this hurricane. 👍

Sorry jambo, I thought you would be ok in your soft seat & with your supply of beer, as they say all Orlando attractions will be open the next day !

It was only Singular in that im replying to Islandflyer's thread he started.
I hope for all out there, & for those that are suffering, hopefully most are suffering material things & not human injuries & losses !. (although sadly we already know already Haiti has suffered many human loss)
I don't think anyone will be selfish in this tradgy & be thinking singularly,

Sorry Jambo, that my wording of my post made it seem this way to you & of courses we hope your all safe !

Fred it was probably a bit of stir crazy having been in the room under curfew for a day and a half. Yes I had a soft seat but unfortunately no beer as all the outlets near us were sold out and charging $49 for a £4 bottle of red!! I agree with all your points especially for the people of Haiti. We certainly dodged a big bullet when it did not make landfall. In a way I'll be glad to get back to 'the known ' expectations and conditions. Cheers for now. Heading to Clearwater for some boating tomorrow.

We made it through relatively unscathed. Lots of damage to yards, flooding on the south side of Nassau with major damage to homes, but no loss of life as a result of the hurricane in the Bahamas. Power is being restored across the island as well as other services.

Andros and Freeport got hit pretty hard, with Bimini sustaining major damage as well.

Both boats are fine - one is trapped in the canal because the security gate collapsed, the other is on the hard until Wednesday.
