Changed my mind, need to keep sand out so will use some Tiger Seal PU sealant I had in the garage.

Here's some additional pics (taken in low light).

1. Purchased grooved EVA.
2. Used thick clear polythene and a fine marker pen to get the shape and make a template.
3. Transfer the shape to the EVA and cut it out. Optionally stick it down without doing anything else at this point.
4. Cut off 40mm edge strips from the main shape using a stanley knife, straightedge and save.
5. Out of surplus EVA cut long enough strips and stick it on to the main shape using EvoStik. A 90g tube did all of mine.
6. Trace around the edge offcuts or use your polythene template, cut and recreate the desired shape. I used large wallpaper type scissors.
7. Using a 1/4" router bit create the edge grooves free-hand on the curves and a straightedge makes it easy on the flats.
8. Add any inside grooving as required.

It takes a bit of effort to go the extra mile but that's part of the reason SeaDek costs so much. I've gained enough confidence to have a go with a more expensive material but I'll make that call and update this thread when the time comes. I'm not too precious about it as it didn't cost a lot to buy.

I never had time to seal the edges and it's not lifting anywhere even though it's had some dirty shoes and been thoroughly rain soaked. Now needs a good clean.

Some better pics attached

So have you glued this extra bit on as an off cut?

Because of the roll lengths I wondered if I could scarf two lengths together with caulking or something inbetween to make it look continuous.

Do you think that’s feasible?

Yes.
Post #8 photo shows the process. Straightedge and Stanley knife.

No.
You can successfully join lengths but I would do it with Evo not caulking. Even if sealant worked I don't think it would stick for long and too slow waiting for it to go off. If you look at post #5 photo you can see that the SeaDek on a long section is deliberately broken up by grooves even though continuous. I found routing a groove along one side of the glue line makes the join completely invisible and breaking it into smaller sections looks better and is easier to work.

I noticed slight shade differences between purchases, best to try and get it all in one batch. Don't try and scarf, just butt join it. I apply the glue to both edges, give it a few minutes to dry and develop needed 'grab', then press it together. I made complete panels before fitting them to the boat.

Can't wait to see somebody else's installation. Please keep us updated.
