EPIRB - Delay

How long before the rescue authorities respond to your EPIRB or PLB?

Sinking of Ship:

Note how long before search was rescued, proves that PLB is not a big send helicopter button and only having a proper lifesaving equipment as well will save your life.

Very different situation to anything a Ribnet user would encounter unless they took up crossing oceans - mind you Alan Priddy used to poke his nose in here from time to time!

Bless the Brazilians, they decided to sleep on it and see if it was still going off the following morning.

Nice link though, thanks.

I've no idea what the two of you may be hinting at - all the close shaved Brizilians I know are just very good with balls - just not sure what that has to do with EPIRBS

Yes - exactly 50 years they would be dead, but there are few people who think PLB's and EPIRB's are they primary source of survival.

These people survived because they prepared had the right equipment and of course had the EPIRB.

The delay to rescue is bit worrying but then again, it could not happen in the UK.......

As lifeboat crew said to me " its ok you having the PLB and EPIRB's etc, but we still need to reach you"

The kit is good, but you need to prepared to survive till somebody manages to act on it or reaches you.

For us the EPIRB is the icing on the cake - the last catch all - got the lifejacket, got the drysuit, got the handheld radio - seems daft to therefore not have a way to be located if all else fails - it definitely isn't our primary piece of safety kit.
