Low water at Calshot Castle is 19:03 BST, so I should guess it will be just before until just after that.

Silly mid-off: The Umpire stands watch at the Brambles cricket match - played in the middle of The Solent. Picture by Alan Cleaver

This has to be the strangest event that Strange Britain has ever reported on: A cricket match played in the middle of The Solent

The Brambles sandbank appears only once a year - and then only for about an hour - midway between Southampton and the Isle of Wight. When it does members of The Royal Southern Yacht Club at Hamble and the Island Sailing Club on the Isle of Wight race out to it for a cricket match.

Many of the competitors dress all in cricket whites and The Bramble Inn is erected to serve drinks to spectators. It looks to any passing boats like some surreal mirage - cricketers standing on water in the middle of The Solent. The game only lasts as long as the bank lasts (about an hour) and the the sea swamps the pitch. The players retreat to their boats and head back to the Isle of Wight for a celebratory dinner.

Brambles Cricket

That was just amazing...blue skies, sunshine and a crowd standing in the MIDDLE OF THE SOLENT laughing and cheering on the cricketers...it was extremely funny too ....they were wrestling in the puddles !!!

Met up with Robin who probably got some great shots... the bar was set up and a press stand!!!! Loads of boats...loads of RIBs !!! Saw tim griffin and blagged a Pimms from the Island Club Stand (Met a member Dave Hall ; Revenger person who's going to join RIBnet just to see Robin's photos )

That all-round nice person Ben Fogle hit a six (I think that means he whacked it a good distance...cricketers were drowning in pursuit of the ball)

Half the Solent waters ended up in Zebedee (over the transom) and suddenly it was time to get back in boats and go.

Unforgettable!!! Mad!!! Hopefully everyone got home safe...

Us

(Robin....Tifino looked fab storming home in that inky blue sea & sunset )
