Absolutely ! nothing worse than boats that are carrying far too much weight and are being sold off as a sound.

Hi.

Advice very welcome.

I have a boat I’m potentially buying. It has a camel trophy hull (that’s been recently checked and sorted and painted etc) but everything else has been replaced. 150 hp Yamaha 2005, new tubes 2024, new fuel tank 2022, scaffolding gone.

Am I potentially buying a boat that’s still a slug and unsaleable or are the issues solved? I’m offering 10k.

The 655 as a hull is pretty good, and the hulls themselves generally well laid up and sound. The Yam 150 is better than the original dog slow Honda 130, but still slightly underpowered for that size hull given it's a constant deep V.

Originally they had 3 tanks I think, not clear whether all have been ripped out and replaced or just one? Was the deck pulled up and relaid when the tank was done? Because of the significant order volume Ribtec had to cut several corners to get all these boats produced on time (which also essentially killed the business as this took all of their production capacity for quite a while), and the original deck probably wasn't sealed underneath and possibly the top of the transom. I'd be most concerned about fuel tanks, deck, transom and electrics, but if all have been checked/replaced it could be a sound boat.

Hi thanks for your info. I will certainly get back to them to ask these questions. Thanks for your help much appreciated.

Yes the deck was removed and relaid when they changed the petrol tank (only one had the issue apparently. It does sound like everything that was/ could be a problem has been fixed. Thanks for your advice.

In which case I'd just look at it compared to any other similar aged 6.5m RIB on the market. It certainly doesn't warrant any extra value because of it's ex-Camel Trophy history given that's all been deleted, and if the deck has been done properly then £10k in the current market would seem pretty reasonable for a ~20 year old boat/engine combo.
