Oh, somebody, Ian or JANHO i think put loads of pictures of a lime green prosport 8.5 beign build on the prosport thread. Saw that one again in St. Peter Port.

When it is finished we plan to drive it back for Geurnsey to Portsmouth and have my wife waitign there with car and trailer.
(what a maiden voyage!)
Should be a bit of fun and seen as usually Jason drives them into plymouth for you to collect he says he'll come with us just incase things go wrong.

My advice to anyone buying a new rib would be to check out Prosport. (if you don't mind the wait) Jason will do just about anything you want in this boat. He really can source any different part and fit it all. He buys from every manufacturer as far as i can tell and doesn't really have a preference for anyone of them. Except maybe suzuki engines. They can even put a small cabin on a 6.5m if you want.

Should be well matched to the boat, would have preffered the 115 but its the same block and a bout 1.5k more so i can chip it after 2 years wen the warrenty expires of i feel it needs the extra power.

These boats also need the ultra long shaft instead of the normal long shaft so that adds even more the the cost of the engine.

Sounds like you done well and sorted plenty out when you was out there.
Did you take any photo's of what they were building at the mo.

Photo's - well some genius (Dad), not me of course took out there a digital camera with 12! dead batteries

Anyway it really is just a farm. Thers not a lot to see and the whole company had been out to a Christmas party the night before. Jason came in at about 10:30 looking a little worse for wears and we didnt see anyone else untill about 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Hehe.

I chose white hull, blue tubes. As far as i know im getting two 3 man jockey seats side by side. Each person having his own backrest. All the usual little bits, rubbing strake, anchor locker etc.
Im definatly a-frame rigged for wakeboarding.

As for the price, well Jason seemed rather relaxed about the whole money thing. I presume the price will stay at about 13k without trailer. excluding VAT. Ill have to let you know of an exact price later. Dont know abotu delivery either. At first he said May, then he said june and then he says i might be ready by end of February.

Ill let u judge but May/June seems most likely.

There will be some very good deals on Radio's etc at the boat show in PBO this month the xm is £169 seems good value.

Might get the console with bench seat. might not, all depends on price. I am having the Double console with a lockable Lewmar hatch makign it totally water proof.

The XM radio can easily be bought for £169. Im paying £189 for it with external antenna and flush mount kit.

GPS and sounder will be on a bracket.

I did ask about hydraulic steering but Jason said the no feed back steering that he will fit as standard is rated to 300hp and will be better than most hydraulic systems.

Are you havign hydraulic steering then?

This is what Richard Taylor wrote to me.

I was in a dilema over the 90 or 115. Went for the 90 and im not disappointed. Im sure I will want something monstrously powerful in time but this is a good start. I havent done more than 5 hours or so yet so its early days but did manage 38knots on the last trip in Plymouth and there was a bit more to come. I may well get the steering upgraded, im really ****** off at the poor advice i got when buying my boat. Particularly as i said that i thought hydraulic steering would be a good idea as it would be easier for the kids ! (My kids are 12, 12 and 6, all boys). I was pursuaded that it wouldnt need it... but it does, im enormous and I find it a struggle!!!

well it depends on what type of steering he had fitted. There were 3 boats that i saw in detail at Jason's place. One with a 140 suzi the other a 200 mariner and the other a 225 evenrude. All of which hat this no feed back steering. If its good enough for a Evenrude 225 fitch then it should do fine with a 90.

A frends Deep Sea 18 had a Johnson 150 with some old cable steering and it is bloody awful. Quite amusing though, when he locks the engine over and accelerates he cannot turn the wheel the other way. He has to almost come to a stop again before he can turn the wheel

Hmmm... I can't help thinking that cable steering, even with NFB, sounds like false economy. Steering's one thing that you need to be 100% reliable, and if it does fail for any reason, then you want good warning.

I've suffered steering failure twice, one event with each type, and the incidents went something like this:
1) Cable steering fault - it just suddenly went. Complete loss of steerage. Had to use the tiller attachment (had two on this particular boat so was no problem) but if we hadn't had it, then we'd have had no control over the boat at all.
2) Hydraulic steering fault - developed as a gradually worsening handling fault which was manageable at up to 25kts during 3-4 hrs use and did not put us in any danger at all. In fact I could have kept topping up the fluid for longer. Darned good thing really, as I can't see any way of attaching a tiller to the Yammie 200.

Which situation would you rather be in?

Well i think youre right.

Steering on my old boat went in the middle of lake windermere.
Managed to drive it back at about 10knots while sitting on the tubes steerign with a paddle.

I wouldnt have liked that one out at sea...

Well its gonna be stored in Coventry about as far away from the sea as you can get.

Only about 2 and a half hours to Porstmouth though. Might keep it on the water in Lymington for the first season i have it. I go on hols to Padstow for a few weeks a year. Got friends near Aberswyth. Other friends on the East coast.

Basically ill tow it wherever i feel like. We towed the old boat down the the solent every odd weekend in the summer for a day trip. I dont worry about the driving.

Glad you had a good trip and saw the 'modern works' where these ribs are crafted!

Shame you couldn't get on the water as f5 would have given you a great feeling of what the rib is capable of.
How on earth can he quote end Feb 2004, is it from a different mould to the 7.5 & 8.5? If so then fine, if not, get in line

Yes Ian it is from a different mould.
Not quite sure where he got Feb from. Seems very unlikely.
But he did say delivery will not be affected by demand for the bigger ribs. 6m is also different mould to the 6.5m.

How is he arranging the A Frame and support cables for skiing/boarding, was this discussed?
