An absolute treat on youtube. Donny Wilcox

Found this fella on youtube and he is an absolute delight to watch.
He is a retired Scottish Gentleman that puts to sea /Loch off the west coast of Scotland. What he films and where he goes is often weather dependent. He uses a 4m Quicksilver with Aluminium hull and also uses a smaller Sib. The video I have linked is a trip with some of his good Pal's and is one of his more up tempo videos, but he has over 280 videos uploaded and many are a more sedate watch.
Some of you may have come across his channel some of you may even know him but what is clear is that he doesn't get nearly enough views as he deserves.
He is living my dream retirement.
Spectacular scenery.,wildlife and boat's....what more could you want.

Yes he's a well known member here and on other forums. Gurnard!
Amazing knowledge of the area and beyond, which he captures beautifully and with a good deal of skill.

I'm working my way through his library. he has a tone that has such a calming soothing effect. He has inspired me to make a trip up there later in the year when the midges have calmed down.

Is that a trip organised on here? Not sure I can shoe horn that trip in as I'm off to Switzerland the first week in May.

Where abouts does the trip launch from?

Hi Fastasfox, thank you very much for the kind words on my videos and Im delighted you enjoy them.

Dont pay too much attention to the number of hits the videos get as I suspect they are artificially low simply because the youtube search algorythms are optimised to find and display content that is "monetised" as this is how Youtube makes its money.

In other words, the youtube channel owner gets money depending how many adverts people see while watching the video. I prefer letting my subscribers watch the videos free from the distraction of adverts by not monetising the videos. I also dont promote them the way others do as Im not trying to sell anything.

I live for exploring the west coast of Scotland and pass the time when I cant get out in the boat, due to rough weather, by making videos of my previous adventure. That is all I am after although the fact that others enjoy watching is a big bonus for me.

Yes its true I was an active member of several forums including Ribnet. I enjoyed the interaction with others and made many good friends though forums especially Ribnet. However my time now is almost fully taken up by boating and video making, which I do all year round, that I had to budget my free time. I seldom visit forums now, which is the reason Im not around them much and why I didn't thank you all earlier

I do hope you can get time to visit the west coast fastasfox but be aware , it may change your life. In the video you linked to there were five RIBs and their owners. One was a local RIB, and the other four were from down south. Two of them now live up here, simply because the fell in love with the area. The other two are still regular visitors. That is how strong the lure of the Oban area is.

ERR (Easdale Rib Rendezvous) is attracting over 60 boats this year, which also shows how popular the area has become. Im both honoured and delighted to be invited by its organisers to video the full event from their larger boats. You can be sure the video will be posted on Ribnet so those who cant attend will have a chance to see what its all about. I suspect 60 ribs hammering up the sound of Mull will be a truly spectacular sight and a delight to capture on video.

Its not all midges up here .. I live on the shores of this sealoch so perhaps you can understand why I would rather be in my boat than sitting on a forum

There are stunning sunsets to see ...

The sea is crystal clear for snorkeling or swimming ...

Simply superb sandy beaches with nota deckchair in sight ...

And cetateans to see and play with ...

My thanks again to everyone who enjoys my videos ..and enjoy your boating season

Nice to hear you on Ribnet Donny.
Hopefully I will bump into you (metaphorically speaking) when we are up at Highfield in July.
That last video you did of Kerrera has given me plans for another day out on the water.

Hi Donny,
I understand the whole youtube thing as I have a channel myself ( not as beautifully shot as yours) that I used to document my transition from Chef to Truck Driver (haven't posted in long while). Youtube is trying to push creators towards monetization and viewer's towards subscription..but like yourself I refused to monetize my videos as I never did it for the money. There is a lot of amazing stuff on youtube but equally a lot of rubbish and I just feel that genuinely great content like yours tends to get lost in the Esther....I'm pretty sure even none boaters would love your channel.

I have been to Scotland quite a bit the past few years in the Truck and it's always a pleasure...even the truck stops are amazing. I have also been as far up as Skye on Motorbikes with a pal...but the weather was very unkind to us.
I know I can't make the Esdale Rib Rendezvous as I have a trip to Switzerland planned for the first week in May but later in the year around September I hope to take the trip.
Hope to see you out and about some day....I will buy you a coffee to slurp.
All the best...safe travels.
