Evening all,

Has anyone got any advice on Abersoch Im looking to take family on bank holiday weekend for some rib time anyone been had good experience etc best way to launch i.e. boat yard /parking/costs/slip thanks in advance.

We are there now, our boat is launched from the main beach with our old 4x4. Don't think you will get anyone to put your boat in for you. Pwllheli has a concrete slip. As above Abersoch will be very busy bank holiday and it is difficult to park anywhere near the beach unless you get there early morning

Ive spoke to harbour master at Pwllheli because I'm already registered at Conwy I don't need to pay register fee again of 20 and launch is only 12 slipway looks good onto calm water showers and water at slip so launch there and steam to abersoch may be a plan thanks guys

Land and sea would launch you for a fee with the tractor at any tide state I suspect.

But your Pwllheli plan isn't bad. It's a bit of a pain to drive there, bait back, then boat there and drive back on the bank hol's. You may be queueing more than boating!

If Land and sea could launch and store you for a few days it may be more expensive but a hell of a lot easier and probably value for money!

pwllheli plan good idea shoot to abersoch or shoot over to barmouth an take look up the mawdach stunning views but tidal about 2hrs before and after high water chippy and cafes in harbour use gps as st patricks causeway very shallow at low tide use inshore passage and no probs follow outer marker into barmouth don't try to cut in as the bar can be shallow don't attempt at low tide same goes for portmadog buoyed channel follow them and youll be fine enjoy as dolphins In bay at momment

The lads who've previously posted will have more experience of abersoch and Pwllheli than me.

I had a long weekend in the area a few years back found the harbour master and staff at Pwllheli marina to be really helpful. You can get in and out on any tide IIRC and it was reasonably priced.
If you are there for longer than a day and less than a fortnight just bang it on one of their moorings and have a hassle free holiday. 👍

Or be different and go for the north coast, launch at Morfa nefyn or aberdarron, beach launch local tractor may be available and visit the quieter side of the penninulsa gor for a pint at the ty coch, a BBQ at porth oer,

He's staying with the family in Abersoch with an Avon 560. I suspect he wants to pick up and off the beach, do some water sports in the bay with kids and go to St Tudwals or Bardsey at furthest to see seals.

Venturing off to Barmouth or launching the north side of the peninsula is probably (I may be wrong) not what he's after.

So to walk to land and sea where boat is stored safely, quickly launch and be where he wants all in 30 mins is likely key. So try Land and sea. Also saves the faff of queueing to launch on main beach with idiots who muck it up.

Only he'll know though.

But the drive to Pwllheli on bank hol's is awful, potentially an hour one way!

I don't think land and sea will put you in, it's the busiest weekend for them with all there park and launch customers. You could ask them of course, but don't just turn up expecting they will launch you

That's right I've got young kids who love towables etc they can only last about a hour on on rib before they start moaning for chips and drinks I like to be close to beach and go in and out also my wife doesn't like the rib she's more shore support with a good book.

I've given up at pwhelli. I've been launching there for the last few years. It's changed hands from public to private and at the same time much of the space for car and trailer parking has gone. It was very chaotic there last year and I didn't get on the water last bank holiday. I down sized and now launch from abersoch main beach. The Gwynedd council staff are friendly. If you're early. There's plenty of space for car and trailer , but by midday everywhere has been full the last few weekends.
It costs £10 to launch and £5 to park.

Looks like the best option, get there really early doors whilst the wife and kids get ready for beach, launch the boat and have it on the beach anchored just off the shore ready for use in the day, then recover late on after the family leave and you've had a quick blast to the islands! ;-)

You'll be back once kids bathed and tea on the go! ;-) double bonus.

The main beach barrier is closed at 8pm and re opens at 9am. I know because I got there at 8am this week and had to wait until 9am for them to open the barrier. We launch from the beach and have done for the last 10years, check the tide times for the weekend you are there as you might be lucky for a morning high tide and be able to launch from the concrete slip

There used to launch facility at the warren but again very busy weekend you piled into car park and tractor fetched you and launched (for a fee) not sure on the deal now, llanbedrog might be another option but never launched there myself.

There's a new launch place in the river now opposite land and sea, not sure what is called.

Abersoch boatyard? Only did season launches when I asked but that was last year.
