Hello - New RIB

Greetings one and all,

Im John and im brand new to here having just bought my first RIB.

As i diver im no stranger to riding in them but i tended to be in water rather than driving although i have held my boat handling ticket for 20yrs plus.

My new 'beast' is a 4.5m zodiac with what i think is an 87 40HP Yamaha electric trim and tilt on the back. My plan is to spend the winter getting it back in shape and used to handling her on easy water before loading up with divers for the summer.

Sale water park do let power boats on to do what they call an engine test early mornings on certain weekdays, I forget how much they charge but I think it's only for one hour. Give em a ring.

Hi John

Welcome, you must be super excited with your new "beast"!!

Not sure if you wanted to play on the Mersey!! If so there are a number of launch sites but by far the best and most economical is Liverpool Sailing Club. I had a guided tour last week and for an annual membership (not too expensive) you can launch 24/7/365. Every member is given a set of keys!!

Great bunch of guys too. Check them out - Liverpool SC

The alternative is to launch off New Brighton (Need a permit from Wirral Council) or pay lock out/in fees (£11 each way) at Liverpool Marina!!

Natalie

Hi Natalie,

Thanks for that link, it looks great and a personal recommendation is always a good thing. The membership is, as you say, very reasonable and with boat parking available too this has to be well worth a look.

Did you contact anyone in particular of just the membership sec?

It is a hidden gem!! I have lived in Liverpool most of my life and didn't know the club existed until one of the guys from here (who lives in Scotland) told me about it.

It is a great club and facilities are excellent!! Lots of parking and storage!! I emailed the membership secretary (Paul Daniels - no not that one :-) ) and he got in touch and arranged my guided tour!! The club also run a number of RYA courses and are a lot cheaper than the commercial providers because they are a charity!!

Definitely go along and meet them!! May see you there!!
