Hello from South Wales

Hi,
Just thinking of starting SIB fishing so thought this forum is good place to get help and information. I am 'mature' (like a cheddar - I suppose), and would like to get out on the water fishing.

Cheers everyone,

Simon

Hi Simon and welcome to the forum. Do you have any previous boating experience or is this all new to you?

Have you seen any SIB outfits that you like the look of to give us an idea what you're thinking of starting with?

David

Thanks for the welcome David.

I have a little boating experience but honestly not much. I know safety is the number 1 priority so happy to go on course etc.

As far as boats I was looking at Hydrus and Honwave but any advice would be helpful. Not sure about motor size. I have just moved to South Wales so we are talking about Bristol Channel waters with of course shall we say generous tidal flow!

Use of boat would be family leisure and fishing.

Thanks again

Which bit of South Wales ? There aren’t many good launch sites due to the large tidal range which can involve a long walk……

Motor wise you will want more than an egg whisk have known people going flat out to stand still with the race in the channel

I know it well not sure what the deal with slips is there looked like they were building a new one near the pub but also the counsel closed one further west? One at the sailing club and one (not sure if public) at the causeway but certainly there you want more motor than less!

Thanks, all good information. There is a slip at sailing club and of course in Penarth. I hope to go towards Tenby too for a spot of fishing.
