Welcome eze... I think we have another guy from Maldon on here. We live in Cambs but West Mersea is our launch place of choice for a day out.

What sort of outfit do you have?

Good morning Fen, thanks for the welcome

Actually from Herts, we have a caravan in Maldon, well Heybridge to be precise. We used to be on Mersea but the site owner got a bit pissy about age of caravans so off we went. I love mersea though always used to feel like another country when I drove over the causeway onto the island.

Anyway, I have no set up right now but will be in the market for a quality SR4 DELUXE with a ptt 50hp motor. I am gonna wait for the right one to hopefully materialise, but will not travel more than 100 miles as I have been travelling too far to see too much crap tbh

When I finally find something I will be launching from the hard also. Don't see many ribs in Heybridge basin mainly sailing boats & nimrods on Jetskis

Have a good day you folk

>>> nimrods on Jetskis

Steady there my SIBs are always called Nimrod II... after the older meaning!

SR4 will suit that area... we always seem to find a sharp chop which in many ways has guided our choice of SIB.

Hi there Jeff

My ol man & his mate had a 15 hp sib, they used to hand launch it from the beach on Seaview caravan park & used to explore all the rivers & creeks & go up to Frinton. How far do you head out up & down the coast from Mersea Fen? & what is the roughest waters you been out in?

We usually go down almost to Maldon or the favourite is to Brightlingsea for a café lunch. Trip is part boating... part family outing... part dog walking... so we do not range as far as we might if the focus was just boating.

Roughest... hard to quantify. We usually go out a couple of hours before high water and on some days as the tide turns it has been very rough just out of the Mersea entrance towards Maldon by Tollesbury Fleet... and just out of Brightlingsea off the mouth of the Colne round the eastern end of Mersea Island.

Sounds great mate, we have dogs so want to get them out with us also.

Have you been down to Goldhanger? Great little dog friendly pub there called the Chequers that proffers quality range of guest ales and ciders, only downside being there is no pontoon but the creek ain't deep and worth the waist water for brewski time.

We used to use the ferry rib from Cadmore park to point clear, I like Brightlingsea but for proper quality then Jaywick is not too far away

Hey Fen....have you done the Mersea Island shuffle? Start at the Victory pub then head anti-clockwise for a lap of the island......fantastic walk for sure.

Mud... waist deep in water... walk right round the island?? Ha ha We're nice pontoon or dry sand folks. Mrs Fenlander does these days out in jeans and trainers if that gives a clue to our shoreside needs!

Well ain't you the lucky one......my better half has designs on the future boat having 240v so she can plug in her hair dryer
The dogs, however are no problem, we have an Alaskan Malamute and JRT but the little scrote is not the best navigator in the world as he is still struggling to work the sextant got a darn good engine on him , I rate him at 40 hp all day long.
