Greetings everyone

Greetings from Dublin and delighted to find your forum and join up this morning.
I am planning to do some powerboating courses over the next few months to get myself ready to take the plunge into my first rib in the new year.

Could anyone help me with advice on buying in the Uk/Irl Vs. buying in France or other mainland EU countries that are relatively easily accessible from Irl?
My guess is the range on offer might be greater but are their savings to be had?
What could anyone recomend as trusted sales sites for used boats in Uk & EU.
Thanks in advance.
RPD

Admittedly it’s a bit of a weird time for selling boats and prices have gone crazy. That aside I would imagine the supply and stock of ribs in the uk far exceed most of our Eu neighbours. Also a bigger demand here so an open mind and comparisons in costing boat/ cost of collection required.

Hi RPD,

The market in Ireland is v small and finding a rib in good condition can be difficult, so take your time.

Two things to be aware of, not the only two things mind you.

Firstly, any boat bought from mainland UK is subject to significant taxation on its way into ROI, www.afloat.ie have some guidance. Boats from NI may or may not be subject to taxation, best to Google it.

Secondly, transport costs from mainland Europe can be surprisingly high.

Happy searching and remember “buyer beware” (i.e. a survey might save you a world of hurt)

Thank you Iron Dials.
I was surprised to learn that the VAT and Duty were applicable on second-hand boats from the UK. Every day is a school day so grateful for the forum already.
This will leave the options for Ireland limited to a very small range of boats...
