Hello. Actually, I really hate writing about myself on forums as much as I hate talking to answerphones. I think you all know the feeling.

I've been pointed here from another set of Fora, the bunch at YBW.com and I've been on there for years as Seagreen, so I kept the same tag. Those from there will recognise me, I'm sure.

I'm thinking of getting into Ribs. Though I'm a raggie sailor of many years, I know nothing of Ribs, and I'm looking to some basic hints and tips on buying secondhand boats. I'm particularly interested in an Avon Searider SR4 as a small workboat /tender for estuary and calm coastal work, with a functioning trailer. All other bits I can add as needed. But where to start? What do I look for? How can I tell if its stolen? (thinking of ebay and local ads here).
All tips, advice and pointers to these and other obvious questions welcome.

Haha! Hello Kawasaki. I've mates in Preston who've made me a similar offer.. They'll even throw in a pair of bolt cutters - how nice. Certainly researching is a lot of fun. Been out on a mate's (not quite new) rib last weekend and was alarmed at the (presumed) bilgewater gushing up in a crack at the top of the transom, and was horrifed I didn't know why. Thanks for pointing out the SR4, as it fits the spec perfectly.

And Nos4R2, thanks for the pointer. I've had a nasty case of "rotten core" syndrome before, and thats enough for one lifetime.
