Yep + 1 for the boat show idea, you should also get to see outboards and other equipment too.

See the exhibitors at the 2012 Tullett Prebon London Boat Show - Show Gallery

You just missed the Southampton boat show so yes London in January 2012. Usually they have good deals and if you run around you can compare prices.

Or research on here a lot and buy off ebay or off here. They are all grey and made of rubber and look pretty much the same.
Decide what size (and weight) you want then take it from there.

I'm chuffed with my second hand mint condition Excel.
You will need a motor, fuel tank, lifejackets, ropes, an anchor, smoke flares, oil and loads other bits.

This is a super thread

I have been lurking on here for a few days now and there is loads of usefull infomation, being drawn towards the quicksilver 270 and 10HP engine at the moment but not sure im gonna happy with the size so still on the fence at the moment hence wanting to get a feel for the size of these boats.
Also i want to be able to store it in the bag and inflate on the beach so the bigger i go its going to get difficult.

Looks like I'm the lad you need to talk to. I have that rig. Small. I bought mine as a super-tender. A bit bigger might be good if you want to make more use of it. I'd suggest 3m ish with the same size of motor.

The 2.7m is a lot of fun though

I had a Honwave 3.8 air deck ( i think that was the length ) it was great , had to worry a bit when beaching it coz i did'nt want to damage the floor but with care it was fine, had a 9.9 ancient 2 stroke Yammy and would plane 3 up . packed in a bag and weighed about 40kg. just about managable for 1 . after a few dry runs i could get it inflated and on the water in under 30 mins, get a 12V pump from outboards direct but dont use it to deflate as it sucks in any bits of sand and blows itself up !

Check back on here over loads of summer topics on 'which SIB to buy' - don't buy new unless you have a *very* special reason to - you'll be limited to 4 strokes too. Endless rigs come up on eBay every week for 1/2 to 1/3 the price new, many barely used as the novelty wears off for many people who bought new at a boat show...

Just look for a good brand 3.2m - 3.4m ideally with a 9.8 Tohatsu, Mariner, Yamaha 2 stroke. A smaller boat or less powerful engine is still fun but may struggle a little in typical UK seas especially with more than 1 1/2 up.
