That is mental

Was at the slip today and there was a guy in a BMW X4 2023 trying to reverse down the slip. The car would not let him as the rear sensors detected the trailer and applied the breaks thinking he was reversing into somthing

It's the parking distance control/collision avoidance system intervening. You can turn it off. I prefer all these gimmicky intervention systems disabled.

This is normal - stops Smart Vehicles reversing into things. Beemer Boy might wanna switch his rig into Trailer/Reversing Mode. The workaround for the non-technical is to leave the lighting board plugged in while stored in the boot...
