Verrado versus E-tec

Hello,

I just bought a RIB and still have some time to make up my mind about the engine

First I was thinking of getting the Verado 250. My local dealer told me it's a very good engine but it burns a lot of fuel at WOT namely 110l/h. It is also a heavy engine for a 7.5m rib. The rib would be a less stable by bad weather.

So he advised me to get an E-Tec. I was wondering if someone had information about the last one. Is it true that it is performing as well as the Verado 250? And what about the fuel? What would you guys recommend? Verado or E-Tec?

According to Brambles it sure looks nice. 21gph for the E-Tec at WOT while the Verado takes almost 32gph at WOT. I'm just wondering about the performance. I have read some reports that the Verado could be compared to a Yamaha VMax 250 in terms of acceleration and speed.

Hi guys,

Here are some piccies of the 250 Etec clipped on & plumed in. The package is very impressive, quiet, fast & fuel consumption comparable with a BF225 Honda.

Looks great - simpler than a 4 stroke - smaller and lighter - more torque, smoother and just as good fuel consumption - what more could you want????

Keep us posted on fuel figures - reliability etc etc - may be tempted myself next year!!!

we had some problems with prop selection yesterday. we had a 26" raker which was causing cavitation problems. Scorpion are arranging for a selection of props for us to test in 10 days. Will post more reliable fuel figures then.
I think it is fair to say that e-tec matched honda 225 on fuel right up to point boat speed was over that obtained by honda. at 38Knts we were burning 15gph which was identical to honda. honda maxed out at 44Knts and 18-19gph. e-tec at 44knts 18gph e-tec at 48knts 21 gph.

Where are you getting the figures from ???? Have the New Etec's gone all 'smartcrafty' ???

Do you have more detailed info about the fuel figures? How much fuel at 2000 RMP, 2500RMP, 3000RMP, ...

Performance
The motor we tested was the Verado 250-hp coupled with the Crestliner TS202, and the Verado’s results were impressive. The Verado pushed the Crestliner ( 1425 lbs) to a top speed of 57 mph at 6000 rpm and its time to plane was just 3 seconds. We were able to go from 0 to 30 mph in 5.1 seconds. After crunching all the numbers we came up with the Verado’s best cruise speed to be 28 mph turning 3500 rpm and consuming 6.7 gph. All these numbers reflect three people on board with a full 60-gallon fuel tank.

That will take some more time. I ordered mine but it wil take 7 weeks before my rib is ready.

I took the E-Tec 250 but maybe i should have taken the 225 HO.

What is really the difference between 250 and 225 HO ?

HO 225 engine has a smaller gearbox with a lower water pickup, the engine
can run higher up the transom.
The computer also the engine to produce more power.
will give you 4 to 5 mph on boats with fast hulls 60/65+.

I ran the 250etec on the ballastic 7.8mt in spain last month gps 61mph
18 usa galls wot taken of their fuel flow gauge 6 people + 250 lts fuel.
