New Rude E-Tec V6

The new e-tec V6s have just been launched in the States, one month ahead
of schedule. It has been tested in the October issue of Bass and Walleye and a 225 e-tec outperformed the 250 Verado with better fuel figures too!! Now I'm a Mercury man through and through but it will be very interesting to see how they price up against the Verado and the Optis.

The test was on the same boat but they could have been running different props, maybe even evinrudes new one. It is supposed to produce less drag and more low-end torque than conventional designs (pic below).

Anyway some of the data according to the Bass and Walleye article:
The E-TEC 225 HO at 73.3 mph burned 21.9 gph for an outstanding 3.4 miles per gallon.

The 250 Mercury Verado had a top speed of 71.8 on the same boat and got 2.6 miles per gallon.

At cruise the Verado was slightly better at 4.3 mpg vs. E-TEC 4.1 mpg.

Official Evinrude Spec:

If these are priced well, they could take a lot of the market share from Mercury & Yamaha, remember no scheduled service on them for 3 yrs!! Sure looks nice!!

We saw some presentation slides from the Evenrude rep on Tuesday. The performance figures look good & it beats all the competition (including four strokes) on emissions.

I have to be honest the Verado looks a bit over complicated to me - if Evinrude can beat it with far simpler technology they have to be onto a winner!!!
