You are very much reminding me of my old Land Rover days 20yrs ago when there were often two or three engines laying about to try and build one good one.... in fact the same could be said of the Land Rovers themselves.

What kind of pin is it that's giving you trouble? If it's a dowel, you could try a tap&die, get enough threads on it to pull it out with a slide hammer maybe. Heat is always your best friend in these situations.

Carb cleaned and rebuilt.

Block, found a broken pin, flush to the block, ordered a cobalt drill and going to make a jig/guide to help remove and re tap. My attempts to remove have failed, it's only a 5mm pin.

Stripped crank shaft and pistons cleaned and removed any marks with some 600 grade emery cloth, the crank is in great condition really shows the original one up for being a dud. Pity I couldn't use the crank of the new one and the block of the original but there matched pairs so better of sticking to the original setup.

Honing tool arriving today so should be able to sort that out before I leave it all for a week or 2 for some domestic DIY.

My friend recovered a small outboard that had been sunk at the bottom of the River Deben a tiday river for several years.

He pulled it apart put in some cheap parts from ebay where needed.

This was the end result

It's a 5mm threaded pin, that's in the bottom half of the block, from experience a cobalt drill and a jig is the only way to stop the drill finding the soft cast iron of the block and veering off, that and a strong vice and my fobco pedestal drill ( that's kept in the garden, under cover)

Take it the river Deben is fresh water? Once recovered an outboard from Swanage bay and it was a right mess, 12 months under water after the boat it was on broke its moorings. Found the owner, he said scrap it.

Funny you should mention land-rover.....it's where I work, fixing things is in my blood (good job tbh)

We had great times with the LRs when we had a need for one towing horses and plant trailers. Series 2, 2a, 3 (x2), 90 and an early Disco. Loads of restoration fun but in truth once fettled they were reliable for us. All pre electronics though.

I stay well away from vehicles,.concentrate on the facilities that make them, fluid fills atm, ev battery coolant fill machines. Tbh I miss the hands on stuff, hence the outboard workshop.

In my early teens I pulled a Honda cub 50 from a freshwater lake. It was at least 3+ years in there but was in remarkably good condition. It took many months of messing around with it, but it eventually did actually run.

No the Deben is salt water very tidal. It was buried in the mud

That was lucky.

Made the jig, (used some old angle iron) drilled and taped the 5mm pin (cobalt drill from amazon cut through lile butter) just waiting for the paint to dry and it's game on for the re assemble.

Read some posts from another forum and discovered what the mysterious ball bearing was on the assemble table for the carb, it was out of the fuel float chamber, one lucky boy.

Ha ha yes. In my carb overhaul thread linked post 8 above I commented...

One big mistake I only just avoided. When you take the bottom plug out from the primer chamber there is a spring and tiny ball. You get a replacement spring in the kit but not the ball and it was only by chance I saw the ball as it rolled across the bench heading for workshop oblivion.

All sorted, problems with carb, leaking into the chamber when primed , rebuilt 3 times now it works OK, not sure why.

Water pump housing was over torqued and was stopping the drive shaft rotating, had to back the fixings off and loctite them in.

Runs at about 65 degrees, top of block.

Test run on the avon is being planned. Pershore marina to Stratford.

Got a spare block and pistons that seem good gonna have to get rid as I have the beginnings of steptoes yard,.Mrs nicknamed me "manky frankie".

Onto my new kicker for the searider. A 2 hp yamaha that's never had it's impellor changed......stuck is the word.

A nickname and a fastidious nature aren't generally accepted as "Grounds".

Well done on getting the engine up and running. The water pump bolt torque sounds odd like it has incorrect/missing base plates or gaskets fitted, the top housing incorrectly assembled or the wrong impellor.

Glutton for punishment on that river run, my teen stomping ground, with up to a dozen locks.

She won't leave me, 40 years of junk to get rid off is too daunting for her, if she did she could have the crank, I will keep the piston and block.

Gone through the exploded diagrams and the gaskets match, got 5nm on them so Happy enough just have to see how it runs under load.

Took a look at the planned route and it's a bit ambitious. May just default to Upton upon seven go up stream for a bit and mix it with the sewage

Follow on, stripped the leg down, yet again, as the water flow wasn't great and in my heart of hearts I knew I had a issue.

On close inspection the impellor was sitting proud of the pump housing, new one on order.
