Evinrude etec 150 HO wot they like?

Hi guys, not been on here for years as I sold my RIB to buy an old 1943 ex US army lorry .

Anyway, my dive club is going to buy another RIB to replace our old Delta. On the back of this RIB is a 150 Evinrude Etec HO. I have no experience with Etecs as we are Merc/Mariner dealers and don't touch Evinrudes at all anymore. So what I want to know is are they any good?

I never liked the Fichts as I heard about quite a few blowing up, are the Etecs better/stronger engines? It is a 2006 engine and has done 300hrs. I estimate our old 90hp Mariner fourstroke has done about 2500hrs in the last 5years and never given any problems. Are the Etecs equally relaible or are they prone to any niggly little probs?

Any input would be appreciated.

Good job they have a three year warranty then 'cos you can keep updating them FOC!!!

You'll get everyone on here telling you that Optimax is better/worse, Yamaha/Suzuki/Honda/Verado 4-stroke is the way to go, "I've heard this" and "I've heard that" but it appears that they are as good or bad as any other engine out there.

My DI has been brilliant but if you look down about 3 topics on this page you'll find a big Sunday Sport headline "Another DI problem" or something similar, so there's at a least two that have issues! There's more than two people on the same thread that swear by theirs, one of whom is looking at updating his to the Etec!

It'll do a good job, it has a warranty and it's got a good dealer network.

I,ve not had any problems worth mentioning, most people that complane about them have no experience and are only talking from hearsay (no offense intended)Like any engine if you maintain them properly it will last you well. The warenty evinrude gives are exilent .Good luck

Hi Tue

Is it the Chinook rib in Dartmouth that you're looking at? ... i know who it belongs to and can tell you it's been fastidiously looked after and it's a lot of boat for the money.

Yes it is. I have been to see it last Thursday and it certainly is a bit of kit. Hoping to sea trial it at the weekend and then finish the deal .
