I would give him/her/it a smack in the chops for calling me Dear

That's a new one on me, I am a moderator on two other forums and I have never heard of spam by PM, in fact I can't remember ever seeing a 419 scam on the forums, it is usually commercial cr&p that we get. Bit labour intensive for the spammers I would think, sending individual messages, and if they are going to go to that effort you would think they would write something a bit better than the usual piffle which you can spot as a scam a mile off

No, I didn't get that one.

I got your contact from: http://www.rib.net/directory/ when I was searching for somebody to assist me and i decided to contact you for help

so they/him/them must be trolling the forum, so someone has a nasty little bot infection!

I've come across this before on email, but not on a forum.

It's a SCAM!
Don't respond to it, just delete it from your inbox. Maybe the offender can be deleted from the forum - if he hasn't been already!

Yes, this RIBnet account is now festering in the spam bin. It is, of course, a scam and should be treated with the disdain it undoubtedly deserves.

Spam by PM has been very rare so far, and long may this continue. If anyone receives any in the future, please forward it to me and I'll deal with it.

These messages were also sent to companies listed on the RIBnet trade directory. They have a rib.net address on them because they are sent via the message form on the directory. Individual email addresses are secure as they are not revealed to the sender, however any contact form (by it's nature) may be abused from time to time. If it becomes more of a problem then I'll have a look at some other options.

Please let me know of any future spam you get via RIBnet, either by PM or email.

BTW I deleted the racist rants. It's not acceptable here.

Thanks
John

The Met have a special unit set up to deal with these 419 or West African scams (as they are known).

Email copies and info to - I guess every now and then they will manage to track and stop one of these arseholes.

fraud.alert@met.police.uk

Nigeria - anything from this place should be treated with maximum suspicion, it is the worlds number 1 for fraud. For some reason they thrive on dishonesty.

You could also argue that they thrive on other people's greed and stupidity.

True - I read a report which stated that is 2001 every week there would be 3 to 7 Americans waiting in the arrival lounge at Heathrow to meet their Nigerian friends to carry out the transaction...
