Dolphin sighting

My friends sailed over from Chichester yesterday and saw a dolphin in the Solent.

Anyone else ever seen a dolphin in the Solent?

I've swam with a dolphin at Compton Bay on the soutwest side of the island...apparently doing so wasn't such a great idea though!

I asked them whether it was a porpoise and they said it was a dolphin. It stayed with the boat for 15mins.

Send a message via MSN to hannah
Why wouldn't swimming with the dolphin be a great idea?

Solitary dolphins are most likely to be males who have, for whatever reason, decided to forgo their natural environment and habituate inshore waters populated by humans.

Swimming with them can be problematic as they will frequently attempt to have sexual congress with swimmers in the water.

Dolphins, despite popular myth, are little cleverer than cattle, albeit with a heightened libido.

We have a " friendly" Dolphin that we meet regularly on Advanced Courses off the Aran Islands on the West Coast. He will stay with the boat for up to an hour and on occasion, I have been joined by him while diving . Wonderful experience !

However !!! The same dolphin rammed and seriously injured a German tourist who went swimming with him a few weeks ago !

Ties in with the information regularly given out that they are still wild animals and can be unpredictable !!

Best wishes,

Stuart

please see my earlier post re: sex-crazed dolphins.

While many people consider swimming with these cetacious mammals to be a somewhat spiritual experience, much the same sense of expectant excitement may be gained by walking around Cardiff on a Friday night in a miniskirt.
