Sounds a bit thirsty...

At the boat show i was told it was just the engine managment chip that upped the powed from 90hp to 115 then at rib-x colin said it was a different bore. Who's right?

New or old 2s or 4?

Strictly IMHO i would say on the same boat at the same speed it would use less because you would be reving lower (different prop would be needed) although this might not hold true if the 115 is, say a 2li and the 90 was smaller cc.

Let me have specific's of two engines and i'll make a more educated guess

sorry I assumed 2 stroke. But there is not that much difference in consumption. Is there?

That makes it a but harder to reason with i think - the chip may well be a complete re-map of the fuel injection type stuff which might throw more fuel in to get more HP, but again i could be very wrong about that.

If you can get more HP and run a larger prop i am convinced fuel consumption will be less, but this might be more about torque than HP, in which case i think you would need a bigger boar (more cc's) to swing another 2" of prop...

..in short i dunno.

I'd get the 115 if the price is reasonable and weight the same.

I'd have a 175 opti on mine if it was not about £3k more

Yes its the same bore, maybe Colin at rib-x was talking about the 140 compared to the 115 which is a different bore.

So the engine will be on a 5.75m boat i want the 115, as far as i can tell from the suzuki website the only difference is you get another 500 rpm at WOT. Same gear ratio, bore, stroke, recomended prop size etc.

Would that mean it will give identicle fuel consumption throughout the rev range and just a little extra power if its needed?

edit: its another £850 though...

I reckon you are right, most 4s engines max HP is at max rev's (think about it in a car, even if you pass the red line the power is higher). In which case the 115 prob. won't swing a bigger prop.

This is quite different with a diesel, rev past 3k and you feel the power drop off, even though the red line might be at 4k.

Have you considered any of the new smaller opti's? Or even the 135 opti (which then leads to teh 150 which is the same, they are all 197Kg)

How much does the Suzi weigh?

The suzuki 115 is 189kg. I have considered the opti's but having heard numerous ribsters out at varios companies they have all concluded that although the opti's are good the suzuki is the best.

189kg is fairly light too, the ulta long shaft is 194kg but i think on the falcon i can have a long shaft.

Oh dear, what a waste of effort!
The last time I checked, the word for indicating the size of the hole in which your piston lives was "Bore" and a "Boar" was a big hairy bugger (like jackeen) so the alleged joke was, it must have pedals on said OB for the Boar to pedal!

A Yamaha 225 'Wildboar' or summat
