Outboard 4-8hp

Hi all,

I’m on the lookout for a used outboard from 4-8hp, open to suggestions. Looking online, those Hangkais at £200 seem to be falling to bits after saltwater use, so I figured those ££ would be better spent on a used OB that’s nicely built.

TIA

Yep a major brand used is the way to go.

In 4hp I like the all very similar Mercury/Mariner/Tohatsu/Yamaha 2-stroke models from around 2000yr.

In 8hp the Yamaha and Tohatsu 2-strokes of the same sort of year are good.

I have a 2000 evinrude 5hp and it's decent - single cylinder version, identical to Suzuki DT5.

If you're OK with 2 stroke, if you can, I'd say just tweak your spec upwards to a 9.8 -> the Tohatsu 9.8 2 stroke is only 4 kg heavier than my johnson 5!
And it's a twin, so a bit smoother too

RIBase
Tohatsu 5hp 2-stroke is a nice bit of kit if you can find one. 2.5 litre integral tank and ability to hook up to 12 litre portable from what I understand. Only 20kg. Assuming this is for a SIB so short shaft?

Here's my Alladin's cave of what's available.
