Well finely got there in the end, put the new impeller in and thermostat and its now putting out a good strong jet,and sticking at the right temperature, so what ever it was it now seems to be OK.

Thanks to everyone that has got back to me,got going with it last night and gave it all a good clean out, thermostat and behind the exhaust cover, what a mess it was in dirt sand and grit all back...

Sorry if i misled you, but it has never worked with me, i got it second-hand to go with this outboard and no matter what side i have had it on it has not made any difference.
