I had a Mariner 50 with PTT on mine, it was fine-well balanced etc. It only got loopy if I opened the throttle hard(which I rather liked) and it was respectably quick with 3 or 4 aboard too. 39 knots solo and it leaped onto the plane like it was on bungees.

A 40hp Yam isn't the holy grail motor for them in the same way that a 90 Yam is for the 5.4.

39 knots is that behind the car?
How light is the engine?

Not sure of the weight, but it wasnt a heavy motor (1993 2 stroke) and no, it wasn't behind the car.
It had to be mirror calm to hold it for any more than half a mile though and involved some 'creative' balancing and leaning over the console to get through the chinewalking that started at 35 knots. There was very little hull in the water and it nearly spat me out on more than one occasion.

ADS on here had the boat after me-he can confirm it was a mini rocketship.

Its on the 4.7. managed to track down a 03 model. its weight is 108 same as a 70 but the 70 s are even rarer so this one presented its self.. Done the ply engine plate. so now just wondering if i turn it over for the second time in my ownership and polish the hull as it does need it really.

For a minute there I thought you were putting a 60 hp at the prop on a sr4

If you can't get over 33 knots with that motor there's something wrong somewhere. This is Gibbo500's sr4 with an identical engine from a standing start... and it does a LOT more than 33 knots.
