Does it really need to be a 2 stroke?

I got mine from extreme marine about a month ago.
Mariner 9.9 4stroke SS £1625
Cheaper than the Tohatsu.
It's a lovely little thing and although a few kg heavier on paper, actually doesn't feel any different and possibly lighter (more like wishful thinking) than the Johnson 9.9 2 stroke it replaced!
It's also a damn sight easier to start!
Might be worth giving them a ring.

the thought of one hanging off the back and bouncing about for hundreds of miles a year doesn't appeal when paying that amount of wedge and never really get used...one hopes :-)

cheers

thanks for that, honda 8 looks decent buy for someone.

i actually tried a honda 9.9 today on back of my boat, it is was bloody heavy lump to get on/off though. the merc/mariner is 6-8kg lighter, if you lifted them up at same time you would swear it is more than that.

what was surprising was the new suzuki 9.9 is over 600 quid more than a new mariner 9.9...madness.

will have a think on that 8 though...interesting.

cheers

Why does it have to be 4-stroke. Are you planning to simply switch fuel lines to connect auxilliary? You could carry small 12 litre tank for pre-mix fuel supply if you opted for 2-stroke.

Less weight with 2-stroke, etc. Will auxilliary be permanently mounted on transom?
