Personal responsibility is the term we should be using. They make their own choice of how to live their lives. Let it go...

I don't want someone telling me what I can and can not do. We are supposed to be free! Next you are going to tell me rock climbing should be banned since it is dangerous, as are many other sports. I am at a far higher risk of death while working on my property as a climbing arborist, or logging.

Let me put it into a photo essay for those that want to decide what others should do.

So here is hot girl in a bikini and lifejacket. Check out...oh sorry the lifejacket is covering...

Or would you prefer to see this on your boat?

Now I am not against wearing a lifejacket and they are available to anyone that wants one. I most often wear one when sailing, or if out on the San Francisco Bay or the ocean in my boat when I don't have a drysuit on. [Repeat] I do not want someone telling me what I can and can not do!

+1

Who doesn't everytime when there out on the water see some mumpty either acting dangerously or not wearing the right PPE, I certainly do! If I've got a real problem with them I'll say something to them directly, face to face - but pic's on the WWW, not for me

So I read all this too. And I agree it's just live and let live. There are far too many rules to protect folk as it is

However as the start of this was a picture and just because the devil in me wants to point this out, I'm fairly sure the photo on the ribnet app has a chap underway with a drysuit pulled down and no LJ in sight lol

I won't say another word

As Biffer says live and let live.
We are supposed to be free. The problem with freedom is that it is a two-sided coin. On one side is the liberty to make decisions; on the other is responsibility for ourselves and others.
I applaud the calls for personal responsibility.
Is that personal responsibility with an expectation that others will help you if it goes wrong? or personal responsibilty that says I made my bed I will l lay in it.
I acknowledge that the decisions I make about how I choose to go on the water are mine, but I would like to think they are made in a considerate and responsible way with due regard for my loved ones and those whose help I may need in an emergency.
