Wells-Next-To-The-Sea

Any members here who are familiar with Wells, Norfolk?

I am planning a fishing trip and looking for some local knowledge and tips in terms of navigation, hazards and launch facilities.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know it well but I would check launching. The tide rips across the slipway

Not launched there this year but talk to the Harbour Master, very nice bloke and has always found a spot for the truck and trailer, his office by Beach Road junction

I always launch from the last slipway, the sailing club are rag and stick only
Drive along the sea front easterly take the left where the road bends right away from the sea and keep going when you pass the sailing club keep to the left and it's about 250 yards, end of the road + slip on your left

The compound in front of you is the harbours and where they normally let me put the truck and trailer (helps to stuff a note in the lifeboat tin in the office)

Keep to the wall side of the harbour until you get towards the harbour office
Then follow the zig zag channel out to the Cardinal, its shallow either side, you may be lucky and get a fishing boat as a guide. Harbour speed limit used to end at the lifeboat house.

You’ve only got a couple of hours either side of high water if you arrive early and walk out a long beach road you can see the channel.

The new outer harbour is for the wind farm supply boats

There’s a good café on the sea front near to the harbour office, don’t use the deli unless you had 6 numbers come up on Saturday

Getting in - Entering Wells Harbour - Sketch Plan

Best pic I have of the slip

I have been their many times on a sib. As mentioned watch the strong currents and tides. Especially if you go out down the channel where the sands banks shift and the tide comes in and out with amazing speed. Worth a trip. Even better maybe is Blakeney - great trip to sea the seals. Follow the trip boats :-) Two very nice places to explore ! Richard

Yes there is a concrete slip in the car park. The car park is free if you are National Trust member, or I think it is £3 for a car or £5 with trailer.

Is the slip there new? Not been to North Norfolk for a few years but Blakney always seemed to be a world of mud in the launch area?

While on the subject what's the score with Sibbing on the Broards? License and where to launch etc?

Been going to that area on and off for 50+ yrs and the mud's still there Max. If I was local I would of course be sibbing there but it's the same distance from our inland location as less muddy places with all states of the tide access so have only been as a foot visitor in recent years.
