water in hull.......

hi guys..new to this..just bought a 2001 avon adventura 450..went out this weekend.then wen i pulled plug out of hull ..water came out fast for at least 10 mins help please.....can they sink...

Quite common for water to find its way into the bilge. Do you have a bilge pump fitted?
Pretty sure it won't sink.......

pretty common, i assume you mean between the hulls?
as you have done, drain it and do it next time you go out, im sure it will be fine

Like the others have said pretty normal, plus I bet either the bung, seal or housing for bung is leaking. Worth checking

I always wonder what people do when they leave their boats in the water as I get a gallon out of mine after a day out, though I reckon if it takes 10 mins to drain that's a lot of water.

You can use a silicon grease round the bung, the type plumber should use on plastic fittings and may be have a look to see if it's getting in anywhere else, shove a hose in the hole and fill it up and see if it is coming out anywhere else, I did this on a friends boat and found a nice neat hole in the hull.

Yeah, in theory this is fine. If you do this on a trailer and the hull is light, the extra ton of water in the hull may force the trailer rollers through the hull.

Bad, but at least the holes are easy to find

it is common on avon adventures (and other ribs) for the bung to fail.

as a matter of course you could take the bung housing out and re-seal to the hull. make sure it is clean of the old silicon before doing so. ***do NOT use house hold silicon for this job**

renew the O ring and try again. if it still happens i'd house hold silicon the bung in as test. if you still get water you have a crack somewhere (very unlikely).

Other option is to use Vaselene (other brands of peroleum jelly are available

) on the bung seal area. Kept my old Laser dry inside for years.... Do need to renew it every 6 months or so as it does dry out eventually.

Also works on inspection hatch threads.

Not suggesting the whole boat, just under the deck - if the weight of the water caused the rollers to damage the hull then I'd be more worried about that.

I think that it's under the hull that is being referred to.
